Important Notes:

  • Students who have deferred awards from the 2021 or 2022 application cycle may NOT apply for a new award until the previous award has been completed. If you need to modify a deferred award, contact the Asia Centers Fellowships Coordinator by email at eafellowships@umich.edu.
  • All of the programs that use this application are funding only programs. For research funding, you must design your own independent research project. For internship funding, you are responsible for securing an eligible internship. U-M tuition, room, and board are NOT eligible under these programs.
  • Funding for travel is contingent on compliance with U-M and LSA Domestic and International Travel Policies. Graduate student travel to Travel Warning and Restriction locations is limited to degree-program related travel and requires approval of safety plan prior to departure.

Center for Japanese Studies (CJS)

  • MIRS Japanese Studies students: Use this application for Summer (May-August) funding for degree-related research support (including domestic/international travel) and/or internship support
    • For Academic Year funding: Use FLAS or CCS-CJS Academic Year Fellowships application
    • For Summer language funding: Use FLAS or CCS-CJS Summer Language Fellowship application
  • Non-MIRS master's degree students: Use this application for Summer (May-August) funding for degree-related research support (inclduing domestic/international travel) and/or internship support. Proposed project must be related to Japanese Studies (i.e., engage substantively with an aspect of Japan).
  • PhD students in Japanese Studies: Use this application for Summer (May-August) funding for degree-related research support (including domestic/international travel) and/or internship support.
    • For Summer language funding: Use FLAS or CCS-CJS Summer Language Fellowship application
    • For academic year dissertation research/writing support: Use CCS-CJS Academic Year Fellowship application

Lieberthal-Rogel Center for Chinese Studies (LRCCS)

  • MIRS Chinese Studies students: Use this application for Summer (May-August) funding for degree-related research travel and/or internship support
    • For Academic Year funding: Use FLAS or CCS-CJS Academic Year Fellowships application
    • For Summer language funding: Use FLAS or CCS-CJS Summer Language Fellowship application
  • Non-MIRS master's degree students: Use this application for Summer (May-August) funding for degree-related research travel and/or internship support. Proposed project must be related to Chinese Studies, broadly speaking (i.e., engage substantively with an aspect of China, including Taiwan and Hong Kong).
  • PhD students in Chinese Studies: Use this application for degree-related research related support (including domestic/international travel) and/or internship support. One application for up to 12 months of dissertation research support beginning in Spring-Summer (May 1).

Nam Center for Korean Studies (NCKS)

  • Use this application for SeAh Haiam Arts and Sciences Scholarship
